1. FC Union Berlin is a German football club based in the Köpenick district of Berlin, formally founded in 1966 with roots tracing back to 1906. Long a fixture of lower-division and East German football and known for its passionate fanbase and 'Eiserne' (Iron Ones) identity, the club won the East German FDGB-Pokal in 1968. Union earned its first-ever promotion to the Bundesliga in 2019 and has since qualified for European competition, reaching the Champions League for the 2023-24 season.
