Founded in 1920, US Sassuolo Calcio is based in Sassuolo, Emilia-Romagna, and plays its home games at the Mapei Stadium – Città del Tricolore in nearby Reggio Emilia. Bankrolled by the Mapei-owning Squinzi family, the club climbed from the amateur ranks to reach Serie A for the first time in 2013–14, becoming one of the few Italian top-flight sides not based in a provincial capital. Its high point came in 2015–16, when a sixth-place finish earned qualification for the UEFA Europa League.
