TSG 1899 Hoffenheim is a German football club based in Sinsheim, Baden-Württemberg, originally founded in 1899 as a gymnastics club. Backed financially by SAP co-founder Dietmar Hopp from around 2000, the club rose rapidly through the German league system, earning promotion to the Bundesliga in 2008. It has since established itself as a top-flight side, qualifying for European competition on several occasions without yet winning a major senior honour.
