FC St. Pauli is a German football club based in the St. Pauli district of Hamburg, founded in 1910, that has spent most of its history moving between the Bundesliga and the lower divisions. The club is renowned less for on-field success than for its distinctive countercultural identity: since the mid-1980s its supporters have embraced left-wing, anti-fascist, anti-racist and pro-LGBTQ+ politics, adopting the skull-and-crossbones as an unofficial emblem and turning the club into a globally recognised 'Kult' brand. Its honours consist only of lower-division and regional championships, as it has never won a major national title.
