Nicknamed "the Black and Yellow," the club has won eight German championships and is one of the country's most successful and best-supported clubs, boasting the highest average attendance of any football team in the world. Its golden era came in the 1990s under Ottmar Hitzfeld, capped by winning the 1997 UEFA Champions League and Intercontinental Cup.
