Football Club Lorient, nicknamed Les Merlus, was founded on 2 April 1926 and is based in Lorient, Brittany, playing at the Stade du Moustoir (Stade Yves Allainmat). The club's crowning achievement was winning the Coupe de France in 2002, beating SC Bastia 1-0 in the final, and it has since established itself as a regular Ligue 1 side that serves as a springboard for international talent.
